Counteracting The Gloom

January 15, 2012

When winter really sets in with dark days, wild storms, and deep chills there is nothing like the memory of spring and summer to counteract the prevailing gloom. What better than pictures of flowers and beautiful plants to give us relief from what seems to conspire to create depression?

I enjoy taking pictures of beautiful plants probably more than just about anything else I aim my camera at. With the possible exception of animals. Flowers have such remarkable structures. Their shapes can be sensual and captivating while expressing incredibly vivid color. We forget that flowers are reproductive organs and are designed with that purpose as their foremost endeavor. Fortunately, other beings aid them in their purpose and we can become enraptured with the display for aesthetic reasons.
